Тема: «Seasons and Holidays»
Мета проведення тижня англійської мови:
- вдосконалення мовленнєвих  та мовних навичок;
- розвиток комунікативних навичок під час підготовки та проведення тижня;
- формування норм поведінки;

We are the children”
The host:
Hello, dear children. Hello, dear teachers. Hello, dear parents. We are glad to meet you at our party devoted to the English Language Week. We are really happy to have such a great tradition of celebrating the week, so let’s show how we are happy today and let’s recollect all our impressions about virtual travelling to different countries during these holidays.
All the pupils sing and role-play the song“ I’m HAPPY” (the tune B-I-N-G-O)
I’m H-A-P-P-Y
I’m H-A-P-P-Y
I know I am, I’m sure I am
I’m H-A-P-P-Y.
(Every next time of singing the song children clap instead of the letter at the beginning of the word H-A-P-P-Y)
I’m clap-A-P-P-Y
I’m- clap-A-P-P-Y
I know I am, I’m sure I am
I’m clap--A-P-P-Y., etc.
The host:
The countries where we were travelling to had been chosen not accidentally – we visited English-speaking countries. Our pupils were divided into four tourist groups by the forms, and every form was travelling to one English-speaking country. The 1st form visited the UK, the 2nd form visited the USA, the 3rd form went to Canada, the 4th form sailed to Australia.  Moreover, they visited these countries on different holidays.
The longest and the most favourite holidays are summer ones, that’s why let’s meet the first form which introduces Summer holidays.
(One pupil recites the poem )
Что вы знаете про лето?
Лето в платьице одето,
В босоножки и в панаму,
На мою похоже маму,
Лето – доброе, как мама,
Лето, лето – это SUMMER.

The host:
In summer the sun  usually shines brightly that’s why let’s listen to the poem about the sun.
The summer sun is in the sky,
 Shining, shining up so high
Makes it warm for outside fun.
To play at the park and run,
To swim and hike and fish,
And to go on a picnic if you wish.

The host:
So, today the 1st form introduces summer holidays and now the children are ready to show their costumes.  Let’s greet them!

While playing the merry music children walk around the Assembly Hall and show their  costumes)
The host:
Well done! We’ll be waiting for the next summer holidays thanks to you. Everybody likes summer and likes having a rest during summer holidays, so let’s see how we can rest and what we can  do at the park.
( Children of the 1 form sing the song)
Song “At the Park”

The host:
Our 1st form did a lot of fantastic work during the English – Language Week and they get special diplomas, because almost everyone from the class is a real star.
(The pupils get awards and presents)

Let’s greet the winners!
Let’s go on further! The 2nd form travelled to the USA on their autumn holidays and they are ready to tell us what they did  in autumn.
(The pupil wearing an autumn costume recites a poem)

Poem “ An Autumn Greeting
"Come," said the Wind to the Leaves one day.
"Come over the meadow and we will play.
Put on your dresses of red and gold.
For summer is gone and the days grow cold."
The host:

Our 2nd form pupils have prepared beautiful costumes of autumn nature. Let’s greet them and enjoy their appearance.
(While playing music children walk around the Assembly Hall and show their  costumes)

The host:

So, in autumn it  usually rains, but after the rain we can see a rainbow in the sky. Let’s sing a song about the rainbow.
Song I can see the Rainbow ”
Red and yellow and pink and green
Purple and orange and blue
I can sing a rainbow,
sing a rainbow,
sing a rainbow too.
Listen with your eyes,
Listen with your ears,
and sing everything you see,
I can sing a rainbow,
sing a rainbow,
sing along with me.
Red and yellow and pink and green,
Purple and orange and blue,
I can sing a rainbow,
sing a rainbow,
sing a rainbow too!

The host:

The pupils of the 2nd form did their best at the English Language Week, so they are awarded by “Happy “diplomas and presents.

(The pupils are awarded)

And now we will meet the 3rd form that travelled to Canada on their winter holidays. Canada is an amazing country and everybody wishes to visit it especially in winter.
(Four pupils recite the poem in turn)

Here comes winter, cold and grey.
The hedgehog tucks itself away.

Here comes ice and here comes snow.
It needs somewhere warm to go.

Here comes mist and freezing fog.
Here's a good old hollow log.

And here's a pile of leaves that's deep.
It rolls up tight and goes to sleep.

The host:

So, let’s see what the children like doing during their winter holidays – let’s enjoy their costumes.
(The 3rd form pupils walk around presenting their costumes while playing the music))

The host
Our 3rd form is really very friendly and they like having a rest together. Let’s sing the song about their free time.

SongI Like Coffee!

I like coffee, I like tea,
I like swimming in the sea!
I like ice cream, I like cake,
I like sailing on the lake!
I like Elvis, I like Sting,
I like gardening in the spring!
I like English, I like school,
I like sitting by the pool!

The host:
As you see, the children did great work and they are awarded by special diplomas and presents.

And at last, our 4th form pupils visited Australia during their spring holidays and they are looking forward to the next coming of spring, because they like spring very much.
( Four pupils recite the poems wearing the costumes of spring flowers)

You can tell it's spring
When the trees turn green
And there are just puddlies
Where the snow has been.

You can tell it's spring
When the birds build nests
And mum packs away
Our warm winter vests.

You can tell it's spring
When the yellow heads
Of daffodils dance
In the flower beds.

You can tell it's spring.
It's lighter each day
And after school
We can stay out and play.

The host:

The pupils have prepared nice costumes of spring features and they are ready to introduce them to you.

(The 4th  form pupils walk around presenting their costumes while playing the music)
The host
Spring is the time of love and happiness. Let’s sing the song about it.

Song "You Are My Sunshine"

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamt I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head, and I cried

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
The host:

So, the pupils of the 4th form worked very hard during the week, they are awarded by special diplomas “You are special” and presents.

(The pupils are awarded)

The host:
And finally, I’d like to say some words about the winners of the quiz about the English Speaking countries which was held in 3rd and 4th forms. They are awarded by special diplomas.

So, at the end of our party let’s greet one another again by singing the song “ If you’re happy”.

Song “If you’re happy”
If you’re happy and you know it –Clap your hands
If you’re happy and you know it –Clap your hands
If you’re happy and you know it
Then you really are to show it
If you’re happy and you know it –Clap your hands.

If you’re happy and you know it –Stamp your feet
If you’re happy and you know it –Stamp your feet
If you’re happy and you know it
Then you really are to show it
If you’re happy and you know it –Stamp your feet

2. Warm-up.
T:So, tell me please what holiday or festive occasion do you like most of all and why?( The pupils share their ideas passing a ball to each other)
T: May be you know what holidays and celebrations are in Great Britain? Are they the same as in Ukraine?( The pupils answer)
3.Matching.
T: Now your task is to match the greeting cards with celebrations. Try to remember when they are celebrated.
( The pupils match)

4. Reading.
T: Now we are going to read the text “ Some Holidays And Special Days in Britain”. There are some new definitions in the text. These words are
 First Foot
Lent
Shrove Tuesday

The meanings of these words you can grasp from the context. So, after reading the text you should be ready to explain the meanings of these words.( The pupils read the text).

5. Speaking.
T:So, who is called the First foot? How do we call the first foot in Ukraine?
What is lent? What is Shrove Tuesday? Do we have a Shrove Tuesday in Ukraine? Do you Know how we call a week before lent? (
Масляна). It means Ukrainian people are allowed to eat a lot of cheese, pancakes, butter, milk before lent.

6.Speaking (role- play).
Two pupils are given the situation. They imagine they are from different countries. The pupils share their ideas about celebrating Christmas in Ukraine and Great Britain.  ( While 2 pupils are making the dialogue, the whole class is completing the sentences with new words).

( After checking the exercise the pupils listen to the dialogue)
T: Let’s listen to the dialogue. What holiday have the boys discussed? How do we call “колядки  “ in English? Do you know any English carol? Let’s have a rest and sing together.

7. Listening.
T: As you know in some days people in the world will celebrate Christmas. The origin of this celebration goes back to thousands of years ago when Jesus Christ was born. So let’s open The Bible and listen to the Christmas story. While listening pay your attention to these words. (The words are on the blackboard).
They are unfamiliar  to you but you can guess their meanings because  all of you know The Christmas story very well.
( The teacher reads the extract from the Holy Bible).
                                    THE CHRISTMAS STORY
When Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem| there was no place to stay. They had to sleep in a stable. That night the baby Jesus was born. They had no cradle| so they laid Jesus on the hay in a manger. Some shepherds were resting nearby with their sheep. God sent an angel to them. The angel said:’’ The Christ Child is born tonight. You will find him lying in a manger’’. Amased, the shepherds went to see the new baby. Three wise men came from the East, following a bright star. The star led them to the birthplace of the new king and shone over the little stable.Bowing down, the wise men gave Baby Jesus gifts.

T:  You are given the envelopes with the task. You should match the words and their meanings.
(The pupils match).

T: Check yourself, look at the blackboard.

« Autumn Festival »

Good morning, dear guests. I’m glad to see you. I have got a letter. It is a birthday card. I don’t know whose birthday it is. But I think you like to travel. Let’s come with me to the magic country.
Neznaiko and the Queen
N: Hi! My name is Neznaiko and who are you?
The Queen: Hello, my dear boy. I am a queen. Are you in a good mood?
N: Yes, I am.
The Queen: It’s great. And how old are you, my dear?
N: I m 8.
The Queen: Where do you live?
N: I live in Flower Town. My town is very beautiful. There are many flowers at every house I live in Blue Bell Street.
The Queen: So, you are the right boy. I wrote you the letter. I want to invite you to the party. I have got 4 daughters. Here they are:
Spring: I am green
Summer: I am bright
Autumn: I am yellow
Winter: I am white.
N: Oh, your daughters are 4 seasons
Spring: That’s right. Spring is green
Summer is bright
Autumn is yellow
Winter is white
The Queen: Good for you. And one of them has her birthday today. But who is she? My daughters tell you the riddle.

Spring: It’s cold
Summer: It’s rainy
Autumn: Birds don’t sing songs
Winter: It brings fruit and vegetables.

N: I don’t know
Spring: What a rainy season,
Summer: The sky is dark and grey.
Autumn: No sunshine any more,
Winter: No playing out of doors.

The Queen: Dear Neznaiko, what season is it now?
N: I know, I know it’s autumn.

Autumn; Yes, it’s really me, the Golden Autumn. I come after summer when days become cool September, October and November are my months, I bring a lot of fruit and vegetables. The nature is beautiful. The leaves are red, brown, green and yellow. The days are short at nights are long. It’s often gloomy and rainy. Birds fly away. People go to the forest to gather mushrooms. They bring home baskets full of mushrooms. It’s also harvest time. And of course, this is the season when children go to school. One day you get up and see snow on the ground. Also I’m rich with gold and full of wonderful holidays. They are: the first of September- the day of Knowledge, the ninth of September- the World day Beauty, the first week of October-the Teachers Day, the 31-st of October – Halloween, the day of Pokrova and the Harvest Festival. And I’m the Princess of today’s holiday.

N: Let’s sing a song to Autumn “Happy Birthday to You”. (Everybody sings)
Autumn: Thank you.
N: Look, Autumn, the leaves are coming.
Leaves: Happy Birthday! Be happy and wealthy!

This is the season
When fruit is sweet,
This is the season,
When school-friends meet.

When noisy and gay
And browned in the sun,
With their books and bags
To school they run.

It is autumn, it is cold
I put on my yellow coat,
My hat and glovers,
My pants are grey
And I am warm and I am O.K.

It is raining, it is wet
I put on my violet hat,
Violet suit,
My glovers are white
And I am warm, I am all right!

The leaves are falling
From the trees
Yellow, brown and red
They patter softly
Like the rain
One landed on my heads!

Warm September brings us school,
Days are shorter, nights are cool.
Fresh October brings much fruit,
Then to gather them is good.
Red November brings us joy, Fun for every girl and boy.
