T: Good afternoon, my dear pupils. I am so pleased to see you again. I hope you will be active at the lesson.
Today the topic of our lesson is “Music in Our  Life”. We are going to talk about different kinds of music in different times and their representatives: musicians, singers and others.
By the end of our lesson you will be able:
- to talk about different kinds of music, their representatives;
- to identify the main ideas and details from listening and reading;
- to take part in the conversation on the topic given.

1/Whats the kind of music?  
T: Children, you like music, don’t you? What kinds of music do you know?
Let’s revise them.

P1: Rap or hip-hop is a style of African-American music, in which the words are spoken, not sung.
P2: Folk music is traditional music, or “roots music”. It was considered as music of
      the lower classes.
P3: Pop music is a style of popular music. It is any form of music which is popular and can include any style.
P4: Blues is traditional Black American music. “Blue” means “sad”, and many blues songs are about how hard life is.
P5: Jazz is a musical style that originated at the beginning of the 20-th century in African American communities. It was born out of  a mix of African and European music traditions.
P6: Rock'n'Roll is a style of popular music that originated in the United State primarily from a combination of African American blues, country, jazz and gospel music.
P7: Classical music is the art music produced in the traditions of secular music.

Different styles of music are playing one by one, students guess which one it is:
Jazz, rock, classical, hip hop, rock’n’roll.

The Beatles.
British musical group appeared in the 1960s. The principal members were Paul McCartney (in full Sir James Paul McCartney; born June 18, 1942, LiverpoolEngland), John Lennon (born February 25, 1943, Liverpool), and Ringo Starr (by name of Richard Starkey; born July 7, 1940, Liverpool).
         First they performed together in Liverpool in 1957. The group played American rock-and-roll. Throughout the winter and the spring of 1963, the Beatles continued their rise to fame. Those four young men were loved by thousands of people especially girls. A new word “Bitlomania” appeared in the vocabulary. Their songs: pop ballad “Yesterday”, hard rock song “Tomorrow Never Knows”, folk tune “Norwegian Wood” and many others were extremely popular. They were awarded by the Queen. To great regret of their fans the Beatles parted in 1971. In 1980 a big tragedy happened: John Lennon was killed. Today the Beatles are as popular as they were many years ago.

1.The 1950s marked the birth of rock'n'roll. From big band tracks to jazz standards, until midway through the 20th century, music was a resolutely parent-friendly zone. But then everything changed. Elvis had flustered teenagers all shook up, while the likes of Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and the like were destroying the old safety nets with a  passionate new sound. His songs sparked a musical revolution. 
Elvis Presley (1935-1977) was born in a poor family in East Tupelo, Mississippi. When he was a teenager, the Presleys moved to Memphis, where Elvis graduated from high school and took a job as a truck driver. Through his teen years, though he could not read sheet music, he played guitar and sang country and hillbilly tunes. He loved music but was entirely self-taught.

2. By the end of 1962, the British rock scene had started with beat groups like the Beatles drawing on a wide range of American influences including soul music, rhythm and blues and surf music. Initially, they played for dancers doing the twist, for example. These groups eventually infused their original rock compositions. In mid-1962 the Rolling Stones started as one of a number of groups increasingly showing blues influence, along with bands like the Animals and the Yardbirds. During 1963, the Beatles and other beat groups, such as the Searchers and the Hollies, achieved great popularity and commercial success in Britain itself.
British rock achieved popularity in the United States in January 1964 with the success of the Beatles. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was the band's first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, starting the British Invasion of the American music charts.

3. If ever a musical style defined a decade, Disco was the definition of the 1970s. Although its popularity was relatively short-lived, the genre hosted a great deal of songs and artists that people are still dancing to today and had a large influence on the fashions of the decade, too.
ABBA is a fine place to begin a discussion of 70's music. The group embodies so much of what made 70's music what it was - what, in fact, made the 70's "The Me Decade." ABBA were all about style over substance, melody before meaning. Dismissed at the time as Swedish rock 'n' roll anti-christs, ABBA's influence in later years on dance music, power pop, and even alternative rock has become undeniable. Nearly 30 years after the band went their separate ways, the music of ABBA is as popular as it has ever been.


4. The 1980s saw the emergence of dance music and new wave. As disco fell out of fashion in the decade's early years, genres such aspost-disco, Italo disco, Euro disco and dance-pop became more popular. Rock music continued to enjoy a wide audience. Also, the 80s saw the emergence of Thrash Metal, a genre which started on the west coast of the United States, particularly in California.
 Michael Jackson was and will always be one of the biggest superstars of music or any other mode of entertainment. He ruled parts of four decades in one form or another, so he certainly deserves due tribute as a hitmaking, calculating talent blessed with an amazing amount of artistic versatility.

5. Popular music in the 1990s saw the continuation of teen pop and dance-pop trends which had emerged in the 1970s and 1980s. Furthermore, hip hop grew and continued to be highly successful in the decade, with the continuation of the genre's golden age. Aside from rap, reggae, contemporary R&B and urban music in general remained extremely popular; urban music in the 90s often blended with styles such as soul, funk and jazz, resulting in fusion genres  which were popular.
 Céline Dion is a Canadian singer, songwriter, businesswoman and occasional actress. Born into a large family from Quebec, Dion emerged as a teen star in the French-speaking world. Dion's music has been influenced by genres ranging from rock and R&B to gospel and classical.  Her recordings are mainly in French and English, although she also sings in Spanish, Italian, German.

І. Початок уроку.
1. Привітання.

2. Уведення в іншомовну атмосферу.
Т: Attention, attention, listen to me.

    The fairy-tale begins.
    Країна див чекає на нас.
    Куди ми потрапимо?
    Спробуй здогадатися сам.
    Відгадайте назву цієї країни, склавши ці чарівні розрізані картинки докупи (HO 1). Що на них зображено назвіть англійською мовою і не забудьте записати назване слово на аркуші паперу.
Робота в групах:
Учні складають картинки та на аркуші паперу записують слова.
І група: слово plum;
ІІ група: egg;
ІІІ група: jam;
ІV група: milk;
V група: fish.
Т: Але це ще не все. Перша група, підкресліть четверту літеру в слові plum та запишіть її на дошці (m).
Друга група – першу літеру у слові egg (e).
Третя група – другу літеру у слові jam (a).
Четверта група – третю літеру у слові milk (l).
Пята група – третю літеру у слові fish (s).
А тепер читаємо разом.

5. Гра на уважність «Їстівне, не їстівне». Закріплення знань лексичного матеріалу.

Т: Про завзятих дітей, які потрапили до країни Meals дізнався король Taste (Смак) і запросив гостей до свого палацу. По дорозі нам зустрічається принцеса Sweet (Цукерочка), що грається в саду з мячем. Вона дуже рада нас бачити. Тепер їй є з ким погратися. Принцеса буде кидати вам, любі діти,  мяча і називати англійське слово. Якщо це слово означає щось їстівне, ви ловите м’яча, якщо не їстівне, відштовхуєте його.
Вчитель озвучує принцесу. Учні уважно виконують завдання гри.
6. Рольова гра « Поради стрункої принцеси». Драматизація діалогу між принцесою та учнем – робота в парах.
Т: Розігруємо діалог між  стрункою принцесою та одним із вас. Стрункою принцесою буде, наприклад, Інна. Ставити питання буде Діана. Діана бажає дізнатись секрет стрункості нашої милої принцеси. Використовуємо тезисні речення, що на картках (НО 3), в вашому діалозі.

1. Домашнє завдання:
  Т: Я дізналася від принцеси, що улюблена страва короля Taste – борщ. Вдома спитайте батьків, які овочі потрібні для борщу і запишіть. А ще поповніть свої словникові скарбнички  і запишіть назви фруктів та овочів, що вивчили на нашому уроці під час подорожі по країні Meals. Бажаю успіхів!

T. Today we are going to have a lesson devoted to press in Britain. You will learn a lot of information, and at the end of the lesson I will ask  you : ”Would you like to read British press or not? “.
2. Warm Up.
T. Do you like reading newspapers and magazines? What Ukrainian magazine or newspaper do you prefer to read? How often does this paper or magazine  come out?
II. Presentation.
Checking the homework .Reading.
T. At home you had group work. The first group had to find the information of what are tabloids , the second group had to find the information about what are “quality papers”.
P1. Most of popular papers are tabloids-that is the papers with small size pages. The tabloids place a lot of pictures, big headlines and short articles. The popular newspapers are easy to read and often contain little real information- they usually have stories about ordinary people and events, which are amusing or odd.
T. Who wants to add something?
P2. Examples of this type of newspapers in Great Britain are:” The Daily Mail”,
 ”The Sun” , “The daily Mirror”.
T. Who wants to tell us about quality papers?
P3. “ Quality ”  papers give more reading material about politics and foreign affairs. Their articles are bigger in size and have much news.
T. Who is able to add something?
P4. They have different pages for home news, foreign affairs, articles on literature, business, fashion and so on . In Britain the most popular “ quality” papers are: “Financial Times” , “The times” , “The Daily Telegraph” .

Writing  in  groups.
T. Now you have to exchange with the tasks . I‘ ll give you cards with different statements. The first group has to write out all statements, which in your opinion belong to the” quality papers”. The second group must write out the statements, which we can find reading tabloids. I give you ten minutes.

National newspapers have an average total circulation of over 13 million on weekdays and about 14 million on Sundays, although the total readership is considerably greater. There are 10 national morning daily papers and 10 national Sundays – five “qualities”, two “mid – market” and three “popular” . There are about 1,350 regional and local newspapers, and over 7,000 periodical publications.

There is no state control or censorship of the newspaper and periodical press, which caters for a range of political views, interests and level of education. Where they express pronounced views and show obvious political leanings in their editorial comments, these may derive from proprietary and other non – party influences.
Working practices throughout the newspaper industry have become more efficient with the widespread use of advanced computer – based technology. Publishers have been able to reduce production costs by using computer systems for editing and production processes.

1.Greeting.
T:-Hello, dear pupils! I’m very glad to see you today! My name is L. V. I’ll be your teacher of English for today. Today you’ll play the game” Wheel of fortune” .You’ll review the themes: “Professions” and I’ll check your grammar: ” Present  Simple” and ”Future Simple “ Tenses.
2. Warm up.
T:-What’s your name?
P:-My name is…
T:-What is your friend’s name?
P:-My friend’s name is…
T:-How are you?
P:-Thank you, I’m fine.
T:-How old are you?
P:-I’m nine.
II. Presentation.
T:-Let’s go over some vocabulary. Repeat after me. (Teacher matches  pictures to the vocabulary words. Then put  pictures on the table.) Come to the blackboard and find this professions on the pictures.
III. Practice.
Activity directions.
T:-To reach the goal of today’s lesson you should follow the rules:
-keep silent in your groups;
-choose someone in your group who will spin the wheel;
-you can only use each letter once. If you land on the same letter twice, spin again;
-while the one pupil is at the wheel the rest of the group does a second task;
-if the pupil at the wheel answers incorrectly other groups have the chance to answer the question for one point;
-if groups become too noisy, the teacher can take away points.

T:-Red team, you are the first. Someone from your team come to the wheel. Spin the wheel. You landed on letter” A”! Here is your task. And  here is the additional task for the rest of the group.(If  they are right ,teacher gives them two points. If only who is at the wheel is right-one point.)

P:-No, he isn’t.
T:-Who knows the answer for an extra point?
Each group answers  three times. Then they should write their answers on the blackboard.
T:-Now, let’s count the points! ____, you are the winners! Let’s give a round of applause! Take your prizes!
(In case, if two or three groups have the same amount of points, teacher gives the additional tasks.)
